This morning I noticed an unusual burst of search activity (mainly from France and Syria) taking people to my blog; the searches for the last hour alone are posted below.
As one can see, the majority of searches are for the terms "Asma al-Assad nude" and variations of those terms "Asma al Assad" and "nude".
I have done a series of pictures with the theme "the emperor without clothes" including nude figure studies of Asma Al Assad, one of which is shown below.
Other "emperors exposed" have included nude President Bashar al-Assad, Gulnara Karimova, Putin and Rush Limbaugh.
But, judging from google searches related to my blog, the public's dominant interest is for a nude picture of Asma al-Assad.
Why is this?
I think an article in today's Daily Mail may offer insights: Asma al-Assad has, according to the article, frittered away her time and money on tens of thousands of dollars of luxury items while her husband organizes the brutal slaughter of their impoverished populace.
Is it Asma al-Assad's tone deafness and aloofness - this stealing of the country's treasury to finance her materialistic whims - which is so outrageous that it has transformed her into a commodity?
Do searches looking for nude pictures of Asma al-Assad reflect that she has been objectified and commodified by the general public?
Is the behavior of Asma al Assad the cause of her objectification, or does the public's desire for nude photos of her reflect a larger illness of our society?
Either way, it is reality.
